Interpretation - understanding what the Bible means

Context is very important in understanding what a Bible verse means.

If we are going to understand correctly what a particular Bible verse means, we need to read not only the verse, but the entire chapter, and sometimes the entire book.

Examples. . . 例子…

We should try to learn what the original writer of a Bible verse was trying to say to the original reader.

When we study a portion of the Bible we should examine who wrote it, when, for what purpose, to what people.

Examples. . .例子:

SAYS=MEANS

We should assume that what a Bible verse says, it means.

When we try to learn what the original writer meant, we have several ‘gaps’ to overcome. . .

1. Language 语言

2. Culture 文化

3. Spiritual

See: 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 ; 1 Corinthians 2:14

NO ONE CAN READ THE BIBLE WITH A ‘NEUTRAL’ ATTITUDE

A. As Christians, we read the Bible with the understanding that CHRIST IS THE CENTER AND MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN THE BIBLE.

See: John 5:39 ; Luke 24:27 ; 1 Corinthians 2:2

B. As Christians we read the Bible, believing that the Holy Spirit has INSPIRED every word in it.

See: 2 Peter 1:21 ; Hebrews 1:1

When we study the Bible, we should remember that it is:

1. A very old book

2. A record of history

3. A book of different kinds of literature

4. God’s book
