(约翰福音3:16) The blood of Jesus, God’s Son, purifies us from every sin. - Thank God For His Precious Gift With A Life Of Love
This is love; not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. (约翰一书4:10-11) I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer yourselves as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - which is your spiritual worship. - God Has A Wonderful Gift For You
Heaven or eternal life is a free gift from God that no one can earn or deserves. People may say: 人们可能会说: “Free? There is no such thing. Everything else I get I have to work for.” “I always thought that God expected us to work or to do good to get to heaven.” The truth is: Eternal life is free with no conditions attached to it. There is nothing you or I have to do - or can do - to earn it. The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord (Romans 6:23b) (罗马书6:23b) For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. - We Have A Major Problem, Our Sin
If we wanted to meet God’s standard for earning eternal life, we would have to be perfect. But none of us are. In fact, we are all sinners who have done many wrong things against God that deserve His punishment instead of His reward. People may say: 人们可能会说: “Are you saying that I will never make it to heaven by my own efforts?” “I cannot possibly live a perfect life!” The truth is: We are all imperfect, and because of our sin, we all deserve hell. Be perfect, therefore as your heavenly Father is perfect. - God Is Just, But Also Merciful
God is a holy and just God, who must punish us for our sin, but He is also a loving and merciful God who wants all people to have eternal life. People may say: 人们可能会说: “I have a difficult time understanding how the God who condemns us can also be the one who saves us?” “Are you telling me that God is right when He condemns us, but that He gets no joy out of seeing people go to hell? The truth is: God loves us and want us to have eternal life, but He is also just and cannot simply ignore our sins. God is deeply concerned about our bad situation. He does not leave the guilty unpunished. (以赛亚书53:6b) He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. We can trust God to keep His promise. Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved - you and your household. (使徒行传16:31) For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. Surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered Him stricken by God, smitten by Him and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed. a. b. I and the Father are one. a. b. Why people may object to the message of God’s Word that you are sharing with them.
- They have sincere questions about what you are saying and would like clarification or more information.
- They have a sinful nature that resists talking about their relationship with God. They may raise objections (consciously or unconsciously) to discourage or divert you from talking with them about this important topic. By doing this, they may attempt to make you God’s defense attorney rather than His witness to them.
B. Some Helpful “Dos” and “Do Nots” when people object to your sharing of God’s Word with them.
- Do not argue. Arguing does not get a person into God’s kingdom. We are commissioned to win souls, not arguments.
- Do not insult or mock the person if he/she reveals a lack of proper understanding of the Gospel message. There was a time when we did not understand God’s Word. We are to aid people so they can gain a good understanding.
- Do not be intimidated by people with great intelligence. All people are sinners in need of the Savior. While some people may have greater knowledge than we do on many matters, they may be completely ignorant of the Gospel, which is the higher wisdom of God and the only power that can save them.
- Keep a friendly attitude and your sense of humor. These will keep the lines of communication open with others so that you can effectively deal with the objection.
- Do not take objections personally. The person’s problem is not with you, but with the Lord and His Word.
- Do not feel bad if you cannot give expert answers to the person’s challenges to your sharing. Some, but not all, of us are call to be “expert witnesses” for God, who know the Bible extremely well and have the ability to explain and defend its message in almost any situation. None of us know everything. We are to witness to what we do know. We will find that some challenges will prompt us to learn more and to grow in our ability to respond to objections people may raise. We should also remember that not every question or objection raised by a person deserves an answer.
- Do not be afraid to honestly admit your lack of knowledge on certain matters. To say: “I do not know how to answer that, but I know someone who can” or to say “I do not know how to answer that, but I will try to find out for you” and then go on to share the basic Law and Gospel message with that person is better than trying to make up an answer that you are not sure of.
C. A Four point method of dealing with objections.
- Determine what the real objection is
Try to determine what is really behind the objection the person makes. The stated objection may not be the real one. Few people tell you what they really think. The objection may be an attempt to cover up for something else.
- Accept the objection
Acknowledge the objection. This does not mean that you are agreeing with the person. It means that you are letting the person know that you heard what he/she said and are trying to see things from his/her point of view. There are several ways to accept objections. Some examples are: “Many people feel that way,” or “I used to think that way” or “I am glad to hear you say that” or “I am sad to hear you say that” or “I appreciate you honesty” or “Yes, but”. (Your response must fit the situation)
- Return the conversation to the witnessing message
By raising the objection, the person has caused you to temporarily leave the important topic of the person’s relationship with God. It is important to turn the conversation back to that topic. A good method for doing this is to pick out a key word or thought from the objection and, in a few sentences, use that word or thought to go back to the main subject, the Savior.
- Share The Good News
Only the Gospel can bring a person to saving faith in Jesus. A person must have a saving relationship with Christ before other spiritual matters are going to make any real sense to him/her. Only faith in Jesus Christ can ultimately overcome the objections raised in unbelief. D.
